Biography简历

Zhu Yiyong (b. 1957, Chongqing, China ). He was admitted to the Oil Painting Major of the Department of Painting at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1977, and after graduating in 1982, he stayed at the institute to teach. Currently, he lives and works in Chongqing, China.

His creative works cover various mediums such as oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, and mixed media. As one of the important representatives of "Rural Painting", Zhu Yiyong attracted wide attention in his early years for his works depicting figures in rural life. Later, his "Memorys of China" series gained extensive international recognition. This series uses the pattern of "red five-pointed stars" to strive for a new way of interpreting the past and the present, ideals and reality, and employs a childlike string-flipping game to interpret people's concern for living conditions and reflection on reality.

Throughout his creative career, Zhu Yiyong has been loyal to his true experiences, always maintaining a keen observation of the social reality around him. He has long focused on the state of people at various stages of China's era changes, and is good at capturing the living conditions and spiritual outlook of ordinary people in specific historical periods through the delicate expressions of the figures in his works.

In his "The Realm of the Heart" series, he shifted his creative focus to reflections on the current ecological environment. He uses new painting languages in the application of mediums and materials to present the content he wants to express, exploring and re-understanding the relationships between people, and between humans and nature.

In his creative practice, Zhu Yiyong continuously extends and transforms tradition and contemporaneity. In recent years, he has broken away from conventional methods across different materials to explore the interdependent relationship between "existence" and "non-existence".

Taking "Formless" as his starting point, he constantly attempts to find ways to interpret images after their boundaries have vanished, between figuration and abstraction. He detaches objects from reality to perceive the distance between psychology and reality.

In the process of diluting and dissolving images, contradictions and fragility, alienation and confusion, reality and illusion, form and formlessness emerge.

His representative work “Village Shop” won the Bronze Award at the 6th National Art Exhibition. “ Father and Son” won the Third Prize at the 2nd National Youth Art Exhibition.

Collections: His works are collected by institutions including the National Art Museum of China, the Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, etc.
